PSAS'
2002
International conference on Precision Physics of Simple Atomic Systems
St. Petersburg, June, 30 - July, 4, 2002

First announcement
PSAS 2002 (International Conference on Precision Physics of Simple Atomic Systems) will take place in St. Petersburg from June, 30 to July, 4 in 2002 as a satellite meeting to the International Conference on Quantum Electronics (Moscow, June, 22 - 28 ), which has a special section devoted to precision measurements. The PSAS 2002 meeting will be a direct continuation of the Hydrogen Atom 2: Precision Physics of Simple Atomic Systems meeting in Italy (June, 2000), and recent progress in the field will be presented.

The PSAS meeting is organized by the the Russian Center of Laser Physics at the Saint Petersburg State University in collaboration with the D. I. Mendeleev Institute for Metrology, the University of Groningen, the Institute of Laser Physics (Novosibirsk) and the Max-Planck-Institut f?r Quantenoptik.

The meeting will be devoted to simple atomic systems, i.e. ones which provide an opportunity doing atomic physics to learn something beyond (the fundamental interactions, constants or symmetry, properties of simple nuclei and particles etc.). The conference program also contains several topics related to specific problems associated with high-precision experiments and metrology.

The main conference topics are:
High resolution spectroscopy
of hydrogen and helium
Precision study
of muonium and positronium
Spectrum of few-electron
medium- and high-Z ions
Muonic and exotic atoms
Precision
frequency metrology
Fundamental
constants
Search for new physics
via Atomic spectroscopy
Structure of proton
and light nuclei
Bound state
QED

We are planning to have special sessions devoted to:
Theoretical methods
Experimental methods
Hot results

The conference will take place during the exciting period of the white nights, which are quite attractive for tourists. The accommodation and the major sessions will be organized in Pushkin; a beautiful suburb of St. Petersburg. Pushkin (formerly Tzarskoe selo - King village) was a summer residence of several Russian Emperors and Empresses includibg Elithabet, Catherine II (the Great), Alexander I and Nicolaus II. The conference will be held in Datcha of Kotchubey, a former private house of the last Chief Master of Ceremonies of the Court.

The conference fee will be $300-350 and it includes:
  • direct conference expenses
  • meals
  • welcome party
  • conference dinner
  • book of abstracts
  • conference proceedings

The hotel price is expected to be $50-75 per person per night. The fee for an accompanying person is expected to be $200-250.

If you are interested to attend our meeting, please, return the (pre)registration form to us.
Since the number of rooms is limited and early preliminary registration is strongly encouraged.
